BPONAGANSET MIDDLE SCHOOL PARENT TEACHER ORGANIZATION
2016-2017 PMS PTO Meeting Schedule
~ Effective September 29, 2016, the PMS PTO email is now email@example.com. ~
Wow! Can you believe what a whirlwind it's been the last several weeks? Getting back into the school routine is a little rough, but as many of you know, we got off to a little rockier of a start than usual this year. With the first month of school under our belts, I hope everyone is settling in a little better. Remember, it might take a little while longer to readjust to the school schedule and responsibilities! I don't know about you, but I'm STILL exhausted!
Meanwhile, the PMS PTO has been busy gearing up for another successful school year! Through various fundraising activities, the PMS PTO raises money to help defray the costs of school field trips and dances, support wellness efforts like the new hydration station, provide an annual scholarship to a PHS graduating senior, fund teacher appreciation efforts, and so much more!
Being involved with the PTO is a great way to meet other parents, get comfortable with the school and its staff, and support each other's common goals. Whether it's at the school store or dances, serving on the Executive Board or as a Coordinator, or simply attending meetings and sharing your ideas, you can help the PMS PTO continue making a difference in the lives of our students!
Everyone has different talents, interests and availability. We appreciate any time, ideas and feedback that you are willing to contribute. Back-To-School Night is on Thursday, September 29 starting with Mr. Porrazzo speaking in the cafeteria @ 6 PM followed by classroom visits 6:30 - 8:30 PM. Please come visit the PMS PTO table to say "Hello," or introduce yourself if you're new to our community. While you're there, enter our Free Raffle for a pair of Movie Passes (including drinks and popcorn) and pick up a BCI form if you haven't done so yet this year. All Volunteers are required to have a current BCI check on file at PMS. Remember to bring your license and we'll make a copy of it for you!
We had a great turn out at our first meeting and we look forward to seeing more of you at our next one on Monday, 10/17 @ 6:30 PM at PMS in Room 151! If you are unable to attend the meeting, but are interested in finding out how you can get involved, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Debi Jaques, PMS PTO President
ALL VOLUNTEERS MUST HAVE A CURRENT BCI CHECK ON FILE AT PMS!
The Glocester and Foster Police Departments establish their respective BCI check processes each year. Local BCI checks must be renewed ANNUALLY. Please see below for the respective policy for the town in which you live, along with the link for a copy of the appropriate BCI Form. Make sure you check off all of the Foster/Glocester schools in which you would like them to forward the results.
BCI Form for Glocester Residents 2016-2017: Glocester BCI checks are FREE. This year, the Glocester BCI Forms do NOT have to be notarized. You will need to submit a copy of your license. Do not bring a BCI form for school volunteering purposes directly to the police station. Glocester PD will not accept it. Instead, they are providing the courtesy of picking them up in the PMS Main Office at the school weekly. Please plan for a 5 business day turnaround for them to run your BCI check.
BCI Form for Foster Residents 2016-2017: Foster charges $5 for their BCI checks. You must bring the Foster BCI Form directly to the Foster Police Department. The Foster BCI Form MUST BE NOTARIZED. You will need to submit a copy of your license. Please plan for a 5 business day turnaround for them to run your BCI check.
Want to stay informed? Do you typically rely on the flyers sent home from school for information? Well, somehow, the flyers don't always make it home from school. It's like the middle schoolers' backpacks turn into an abyss or black hole! Trust us on this one!
Make sure you keep in the loop! Send an email to Roseann Tamarro at email@example.com so you receive our email blasts & flyers.
Fundraisers are key to allow our PTO to provide important funds for dances, field trips, school events as well as our annual scholarship to a graduating High School Senior. Here are some of our fundraising partners. Thank you to those who volunteer and/or buy!

DANCE TRAFFIC DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP POLICY:
Please note pattern is different for dances!! Drop off: Students should be dropped off at the back entrance to the school - all parents are to enter the first driveway and follow the one-way pattern toward the back of the school. Pick up: Students will exit at the back entrance of the school - all parents are to enter the first driveway and follow the one-way pattern toward the back of the school and continue into the parking lot in the back of the school. Each driver should pull into the individual parking spaces and face the school building; parking spaces along the perimeter of the parking lot should be backed into so drivers are facing into the parking lot and able to drive out of each parking space so no one has to back out of a parking space. Students will exit the building and go to their parents/designated drivers' cars.
Parents, who do not make it into the parking lot, will be directed to pull up to the cones in the driveway. Please form two lanes of traffic on the road (around the school) as you follow the road to the rear of the building - no one will be allowed to park "at the door". All cars will park in the parking lot and/or road to pick up your children. All students will be directed to the parking lot and road when it is safe to do so. You are welcome to get out of your car to meet your children in the school yard by the rear door of the building and escort them to your cars.
Once most of the cars are loaded with students, the police officer will direct all cars to exit the road and parking lot continuing in the same direction all the way around the school and exit through the second driveway. Signs will be posted and a police officer will direct traffic as well as PTO members who will be assisting with the direction of the traffic and the students. Please do not park on Route 102 (state highway)or Rustic Hill Road as this poses a danger to students, you, and others using Route 102. Any student who leaves the pavement to find parents in the driveway or road will be restricted from the next dance. As always, your patience and cooperation are greatly appreciated as we work to assure both convenience and safety at the end of our dances.
C.A.S.T. MEETINGS: 1st Monday of the Month, 7:00-9:00PM, Ponaganset High School Library
